Sheepskin is a product of nature with unique qualities

Sheepskin is comfortable the whole year around, it keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It's the natural curls in the wool that make the air fill out around the wool fibre which gives an insulating effect.

Wool absorbs moisture. when the air is cool and damp, it keeps a layer of dry, insulating air next to the skin. When it's warm it absorbs moisture from the body and keeps insulating dry air next to the skin, helping the body's natural cooling system to work better. This makes sheepskin ideal for a child to lay on.

The quality of the sheepskin to absorb moisture makes it easy to manage. A sheepskin doesn't have to be washed often, it's usually enough to hang it outside in moist air. The moisture passing through the wool brings the dirt particles with it. In the blue square to the left you have further instructions on how to take care of your sheepskin products.

Sheepskin is warm and cozy. Excellent for a child to play or sleep on. Comfortable for the grown-up with ache in the shoulders or back, helping muscle relaxation and avoiding chills.

The use of sheepskins from different breeds

Our grey sheepskins come from the breed Gotland Sheep. It is a breed developed on our island of Gotland. The Gotland Sheep has a unique fleece with silky lustrous wool and clearly defined curls, soft to the touch. The colour in different shades of grey, from light silver to dark charcoal. We also have some white sheep of the breed Eastfriesian Milksheep on our farm. They have a fleece which can either have small curls or more defined larger curls. The fleece length of the sheepskins are either around 3,5 cm or 1,8 cm.

The white sheepskins with small curls are very dense. Therefore they are ideal to sit or lay on, the springiness of the shorn wool pile distributes pressure evenly over the body. They are excellent for the baby to lay on, in the pram or on the floor. Why not allow yourself a lambskin in the car seat or something warm to put your feet in when you wake up in the morning.

The grey sheepskins are very beautiful as furnishing, at the same time very soft and cozy. Sheepskins with 3,5 cm fleece length look excellent hanging over the back of the armchair, in the sofa or laying on the floor. They are also very nice for the baby, in the pram or on the floor. Sheepskins with 1,8 cm fleece length are mainly used for furnishing and clothing. If you want a lambskin for the seat of yor chair, 1,8 cm is best suited.

Lambskin and sheepskin - what is the difference?

The Gotland Sheep is born with black fleece. When they grow they get different shades of grey from silver to charcoal. Our white sheep are born white and will keep the white colour all the time. The lambskins come from lambs usually around 4-6 months old. The sheepskins come from ewes, they usually vary a lot in shades and pattern. Lambskins can also be patterned, but usually not as distinct as the sheepskins. Lambskins are usually more uniform in colour. Lambskins are usually of softer skin and of less size than sheepskins. Sheepskins are more firm regarding both the curls and the skin.
